Stars of Hope in Liberia
In post-conflict Liberia, women who survived the worst of war crimes continue to confront violence, with rape being the highest reported crime in the country. Yet with strength and determination, Liberians are making historical strides towards securing women’s rights.
In an effort to raise awareness, thousands of Liberian men, women and children contributed statements relating to women’s rights. Written on wooden stars, they were displayed last month on the grounds of Monrovia’s hospital.
As Liberia’s Minister of Gender told those attending the campaign’s launch, even in the darkest night, there are glimmering stars that shine strongly to provide hope. May these voices shine bright and multiply, bringing forth a new dawn.

Wishing you peace and joy this holiday season and may your new year be filled with courage and hope.
